Questions to Inspire Growth in Your Tech Journey
Navigating a crossroads in your tech career
You have been working in technology for several years or decades, honing your engineering skills and figuring out the career steps that will land you the next role. Things have been (mostly) good, but you have reached a point where you are wondering if there is something more to it. You want to make a bigger impact, yet things feel very same-y.
If you have brought this up with your manager, they may have brought up promotions cycles, shrinking budgets, needing to find more important projects, demonstrating your influence, etc. How do you translate this into something meaningful for you?
Key questions to explore
You still have unanswered questions:
- How do I stop feeling pulled from different directions?
- How do I gain ownership of my day to day, priorities and goals?
- How do I find space to keep learning?
- How do I develop those influencing skills that will help me grow further?
- How do I rekindle my curiosity for working in tech?
Those are questions I have heard from very experienced engineers. Some of them have changed companies, promoted or jumped into management. Some have decided to stay put while they are figuring out their own answers.
The questions you ask yourself will amplify or narrow down the possibilities in your mind. Are you solving ongoing problems or charting your own path?
Clarifying your path forward
I have also been on a similar journey. Reflecting on my career transitions I have been asking myself:
- What skills, interests, and opportunities should I focus on to shape my career path?
- What knowledge or experiences would help me grow in alignment with my goals?
- How can I reconnect with my curiosity and creativity while pursuing viable career options?
Imagine having the freedom to create your ideal work environment. What are the risks involved in pursuing that vision? What knowledge is essential for building a successful venture?
Mindset shifts for growth
As I reflect on the mindset shifts required for this journey, I am thinking:
- What new perspectives should I embrace?
- What limiting beliefs do I need to let go of?
Building a supportive community
You might be feeling alone in pursuing your path. You don't know where to find people on a similar journey, with whom you can share but also feel energised by.
I invite you to join me in this conversation. Let’s create a space to share insights, learn from one another, and explore new possibilities.
Through writing and sharing openly, I'm looking to:
- Connect with others, gain clarity, experiment and explore new options, and help you improve your problem-solving skills.
- Broaden my perspective by understanding diverse viewpoints and overcoming fears around sharing my ideas.
Are you ready to take a leap?
